The Journey of NEWMAN – From Then to Now
2019
In 2018, founder SY established a female-led interior design and renovation team made up mainly of designers from the post-90s and post-00s generation, originally known as “Zhuang Xiu Mei Zi” (The Renovation Girls).
The name Newman was later chosen with the intention of redefining the value of women in the industry and proving that women can also build a strong presence in the field of interior design and renovation.
SY’s entrepreneurial journey was driven by a lifelong passion for aesthetics and design. Growing up, she admired beautifully designed homes seen on TV, but experienced firsthand how her parents viewed interior design as a luxury, often leading to budget constraints and simplified outcomes. This inspired her vision to create a brand where everyone can afford and enjoy interior design services — “everyone can enjoy ID services.”
After several years in the industry, SY also realized that many interior designers lacked a complete end-to-end learning experience. This led her to build a platform where compensation is aligned with skills, effort, and growth opportunities, providing designers with a more complete A-to-Z professional development environment. This is how Newman was born — a brand built on passion, empowerment, and accessibility in design.
2020
Newman began building its team and actively growing its social media presence, which quickly gained strong popularity and helped many clients discover us. During this period, we successfully completed 102 projects.
It was a year of rapid growth for the company, and in the same year, Newman was nominated for the 2020 Asia Pacific Top Excellence Brand Award in the International Records of Outstanding Brands.
2021
After the post-pandemic period, Newman became even more resilient. In addition to taking on projects of various scales, we expanded beyond residential design into commercial spaces and office projects, reaching a total of 203 clients.
2022
Newman’s social media presence expanded to 9 platforms, and several third-party websites continued to feature our works.
Due to strong business performance, we were shortlisted for the Vimigo Award. After interviews and public voting, Newman was honored with the*Vimigo Sales Excellent Award 2022, witnessed by our team and supporters.
2023
With increasing brand exposure, Newman gained wider public recognition. During the Lunar New Year season, founder SY Wong was invited by local TV station to share insights on interior design.
Newman’s award-winning works were also featured for the first time on digital billboards along major roads in Kuala Lumpur, further proving the strength of our designs.
In the same year, several projects were shortlisted for the Qanvast Design Award 2023, with the project at Tropicana Aman Arahsia Residence winning the award.
Founder SY Wong was also listed in the [Britishpedia Successful People in Malaysia & Singapore (6th Edition)]”, published by [British Publishing House Limited], where her entrepreneurial journey and business approach were documented. The publication is distributed in major libraries.
2024
In 2024, Newman hosted its first-ever [Newman Night], inviting team members’ families and friends to witness the company’s achievements. The event served to recognize and appreciate the team’s contributions, share the company’s vision and mission, and express heartfelt gratitude to all clients for their continuous support.
2025
Newman was officially awarded the CIDB G4 certification in Malaysia, marking an important milestone in our industry recognition and capability.
2026
We were honored to be featured by several major media outlets, including Sin Chew Daily, China Press , Kwong Wah Yit Poh , and Bernama.
Official Company Establishment & Regional Growth
2026 marks a major milestone as we officially establish our company and operations in Dubai, forming AXYS VISION to lead our regional presence. We are rolling out all SOPs to ensure smooth success and are thrilled to plan the creation of a holding company AXYS GROUP in Dubai to strategically oversee our growing ventures in both Malaysia and Dubai.
Global Expansion & New Market Milestone
2026 marks another significant milestone as we expand our presence into New York, strengthening our international footprint and opening a new chapter of growth. This expansion reflects our continued vision to scale globally, bringing our expertise to new markets while reinforcing stronger opportunities and connections across Malaysia and the United States.
